Maleic Anhydride, abbreviation MA, CAS No.: 108-31-6, molecular formula C₄H₂O₃, molecular weight 98.06. It is white flaky or needle-shaped crystalline solid at room temperature with strong irritating odor. 
It is easily sublimated when heated, soluble in acetone, ethyl acetate, benzene and other organic solvents, partially soluble in carbon tetrachloride, and undergoes hydrolysis reaction when contacting water to generate maleic acid. It contains highly active carbon-carbon double bond and anhydride functional group, participating in Diels-Alder addition, esterification, copolymerization and crosslinking reactions, serving as an indispensable core raw material in fine chemical and polymer industries.
